Urban renewal approval for Brisbane site

A development application for the Howard Smith Wharves site was recently endorsed by the Neighbourhood Planning and Development Assessment Committee and Brisbane City Council. The site is an integral piece of Brisbane’s history.

The City Centre Master Plan 2014 recognised this site as a priority project that will create a lifestyle, recreation, tourist and events precinct. Future renewal will see the reuse of heritage buildings, increased public space and a connection from the RiverWalk to the city centre.

The development application proposal includes an Art Series Hotel, entertainment space, restaurants and significant park and open space. The development application includes a connection from the RiverWalk to the CBD, the reuse and retention of air raid shelters, buildings, sheds and the wharf.

Over 80% of the site will be retained for public open space, ensuring that the area is accessible to the public.
