CIMIC Group’s company, Leighton Contractors, with its T2T Alliance partners, has reached contractual close with the South Australian and Australian governments to design and construct major works for Adelaide’s Torrens Road to River Torrens Project. The contract will generate revenue of approximately $224 million for Leighton Contractors.
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Marcelino Fernndez Verdes said: “The Torrens Road to River Torrens Project is a key link in Adelaide’s program for upgrading the NorthSouth Corridor and transport network.
“CIMIC Group’s construction business Leighton Contractors and the T2T Alliance partners value the opportunity to contribute our road and motorway construction experience to deliver this section of the upgrade.
The project includes construction of a three kilometre section of nonstop road between Torrens Road in Ridleyton and Ashwin Parade in Torrensville. A two kilometre section of lowered motorway will also be set approximately eight metres below the existing surface of South Road and provide three lanes in each direction.
At its peak, design and construction of the project will provide employment for approximately 500 people.
Construction is due to start in September 2015 and the project is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2018.
As part of the T2T Alliance consortium, Leighton Contractors will undertake the work in Joint Venture with South Australian company York Civil. Under the Alliance the Leighton York JV (LYJV) will be working with design partner Aurecon Australia.
The Torrens Road to River Torrens Project has a total value of $896 million and is jointly funded by the South Australian and Australian governments. The T2T Alliance has been awarded the major works portion of this project.
